What is Mental First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses offer internationally recognised training to help raise awareness and build knowledge and skills surrounding mental health issues and management. 

MHFA is especially useful if you are looking to increase the literacy and understanding of mental health issues of your employees.

Courses help participants to notice the signs of mental ill health, encourage them to break down barriers, listen in a non-judgemental way, and signpost to support.

Mental Health First Aid - full adult course

Delivery - online or face to face

Duration - online 4 x 3.5hrs, F2F 2 days

Interactive sessions with practical examples and activities - video and role play practice of approach and language. 

  • Expert guidance and advice on techniques and Q&A 

  • Detailed information on the most common mental health issues with accompanying workbook and manual.

  • Provides access to three years of MHFAider support and benefits and evidence-based resources which includes 24/7 digital support through the MHFAider Support App®. 

    • Better understanding of common mental health conditions and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing, including your own.

    • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.

    • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress - maintaining boundaries and confidentiality.

    • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening and how to recognise and tackle stigma or discrimination.

    • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to appropriate support.

Empower Mental Health First Aiders to maintain their skills with regular refresher training - (recommended every three years).

MHFAiders should refresh their skills, just like physical first aiders, keeping them motivated, empowered and confident to carry out their roles. It also gives your organisation the peace of mind that they can perform their duties effectively.

These sessions offer a great way to demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to treating mental health and physical health equally.

    • Practice and develop the tools, techniques and mindset and embed it into your leadership style and management routine.

    • Gain an increased level of self-awareness which can lead to improved self-management, teamwork and communication skills.

    • Enhance decision-making, attention and empathy through mindful practice.

    • Enhance physical and psychological stress management - improving focus and concentration.

    • Better manage ingrained behaviour and habits, as well as wellbeing and resilience.
